Region Örebro County is a politically governed organisation working on behalf of the county's residents. We are responsible for healthcare, dental care and for the county's public transport.

We are also responsible for the regional development of Örebro county, where we collaborate with others to develop the county in several different areas. Part of our mandate is to support and develop the regional cultural sector.

We also conduct research in healthcare and dental care and train future employees in various healthcare professions. In addition, we run two of the county’s folk high schools and provide occupational healthcare and interpreting services.

We are here for our residents in different ways throughout life.

Region Örebro County is responsible for ensuring that the county’s residents receive good, safe and equal care, and better health.

We provide primary healthcare at the county’s healthcare centres, at digital clinics, through our activities in rehabilitation and assistive devices as well as mobile healthcare teams that provide care at home. We also provide care and support for mental illness.

Specialist medical care is available at the county’s three hospitals: Karlskoga Hospital, Lindesberg Hospital and University Hospital Örebro (USÖ), which is one of seven university hospitals in Sweden.

We provide national highly specialised care within two specific areas; penile cancer and dysmelia. We are at the forefront in areas such as head and neck cancer, eye care, neurological care and cardiac care. At USÖ we are also ready to receive trauma patients 24 hours a day.

Patients come from all over the country, but primarily from Sjukvårdsregion Mellansverige (Healthcare Region Mid Sweden).

Region Örebro County is responsible for ensuring that the residents of the county have access to good, safe and equal dental care. The care can be provided by Region Örebro County or private healthcare providers.

We are responsible for ensuring that all children and young people in the county receive regular dental care that contributes to good oral health.

Through Folktandvården (Public Dental Service), we provide general dental care and specialist dental care to children and young people as well as to adults. The Public Dental Service seeks to prevent problems and contribute to improving oral health in the county.

The hospitals in the county provide dental care for patients with special needs. We are also responsible for dental care subsidies for adults with special needs.

Region Örebro County is a regional public transport authority and is responsible for all public transport within the county. We provide bus services in the county under the brand name Länstrafiken and are also responsible for the county’s transport services, such as mobility services and patient transport services.

We also schedule school transport for children and young people in several of the county's municipalities.

We are co-owners of Svealandstrafiken and the regional railway companies Tåg i Bergslagen and Mälardalstrafik AB.

Region Örebro County is responsible for coordinating the regional development work in the county. This means that we bring stakeholders together and promote long-term development of Örebro County as a location.

Together with municipalities, trade and industry, civil society, universities and the county administrative board, we agree on a common direction in the county’s regional development strategy. From this strategy, we work to strengthen competitiveness, secure expertise, create good living conditions, work to ensure a sustainable transition and develop attractive locations throughout the county.

Through the cooperation with Östra Mellansverige (East Central Sweden) and our EU office Central Sweden in Brussels, we influence issues at the EU level and secure funding for the county’s development.

Together with regional stakeholders, Region Örebro County is working to make the region a better place for everyone who lives and works here.

Region Örebro County supports and stimulates regional cultural life so that more people can experience, create and participate in cultural experiences, club activities and adult educational associations. We do this based on the regional culture plan.

We own a major share of Örebro Theatre and are co-owners of Länsmusiken i Örebro.

In Region Örebro County, we conduct research to prevent diseases and to be able to develop diagnostic and treatment methods that will benefit our patients in healthcare and dental care.

In our clinical research, we collaborate with universities in Sweden and abroad. We also conduct research together with the county’s municipalities and Örebro University within primary healthcare.

Research on inflammatory bowel disease is particularly outstanding in our county.

Every year, we welcome around 2,000 students in healthcare and dental care who will do their clinical placements with us. This is done in cooperation with universities and education providers within and outside the county’s borders.

Folk High Schools

Region Örebro County also owns Kävesta Folk High School and Fellingsbro Folk High School, which provide adult education.

Occupational Healthcare and Interpreting Services

Region Örebro County provides occupational healthcare through Regional Healthcare Services. It is an independent expert resource that helps employers promote health and well-being in the workplace.

We also operate an interpreting service through Interpreting and Translation Services that facilitate communication between authorities and people who do not speak Swedish.
